"It matters a lot" - Pep answers question on Liverpool's poor start

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City are four points clear of Liverpool already in the new Premier  League season

The reigning champions have got their campaign off to a flying start with two wins in their opening two games.

Liverpool, however, are without a victory following draws against Fulham and Crystal Palace.

The Reds now sit four points adrift of their rivals in the table heading into this weekend's round of fixtures. City travel to face Newcastle on Sunday, while the Anfield club are away at Manchester United on Monday night.

When asked in his pre-match press conference about Liverpool dropping points and how significant the early lead can be, Guardiola offered his response.

"(It matters) a lot. Just the 111 points to play," he sarcastically replied.

"It's very early days. I'm sorry but after two fixtures we can not make any plans about the future" he continued. "We play Newcastle. Respect to all the other teams we will try to improve our game and win the game.

"It's just two Premier League games. We have a long way to training, we start the next month we try to improve our principles, our game. The best way to see that is in the games. First two games really good. Now we have to continue that game.

"Liverpool is not my business. This is Manchester City."
