Russell Martin may have confirmed Romeo Lavia is leaving club amid rumours of a deal with Liverpool

Russell Martin, the manager of Southampton, has said that there will be more players departing his team soon as Liverpool focuses on the Saints midfielder Romeo Lavia.

The Reds have already received two rejections for the 19-year-old, the largest of which was valued at around £41 million.

It's been reported that Southampton are attempting to negotiate a price of £50m for the player they purchased for £12m last summer.

Lavia was on the bench all through the Saints' opening Championship game against Sheffield Wednesday, where the they won 2-1 with goals coming from Adam Armstrong and Che Adams.

After the contest, Martin said, "of course there will be individuals departing, and when they do leave, we can hopefully add to the group with players that fit us and will help us as a group.

"But the transfer window is chaotic. Fortunately we have [director of football] Jason Wilcox who is in charge of that and has been amazing since we came in, keeping abreast of everything, really open and honest with the ownership group as well.

"In the next four weeks the squad will look different. That's just part and parcel [of football].

"Ideally the transfer window would be shut tonight! I'm sure every manager would want them, we could crack on.

"It will look very different. It's up to us to make sure with the changes that happen in the next four weeks that we are as strong - if not stronger - than we are tonight."
