The Milan midfielder, who has a contract that expires in 2024, has been under the close watch of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
Recently, the 23-year-old changed agents, and while that is often a decision intended to force a transfer, the new representative has had positive discussions with Milan's chief Paolo Maldini regarding a new contract.
It's understood that Milan want to expedite the contract extension process and conclude the deal as quickly as possible, since they believe Liverpool is an aggressive party showing interest.
